Race Week Preview: Dutch Grand Prix
McLaren found something in Hungary and the break has only sharpened it. Zandvoort's first and last Sprint is where 4A lineups start taking shape. Here is your F1 Fantasy watchlist.
THE SETUP
Four weeks off and everyone comes back with new parts. Lando Norris took McLaren's first win of the season in Hungary and ended a ten-race Mercedes pole streak doing it, with more upgrades due. Kimi Antonelli still leads, but the gap at the front is the narrowest it has been all year. Add a Sprint to Zandvoort's farewell and you get an extra scoring session, an earlier deadline, and only one practice hour to work out who has actually improved.
THE CIRCUIT
72 laps of a 4.259km rollercoaster where the banking does the overtaking because nothing else will. Grid position is close to everything here, so recovery-drive picks are dead money. Target one-lap pace. The onshore wind off the North Sea shifts through the weekend and turns a balanced car into a handful, and with no FP2 or FP3 there is no time to fix it. Team lock is the Sprint Race at 1200 local on Saturday, not Qualifying.
THE WEATHER
Scattered showers are in the forecast for Saturday, landing right on top of the Sprint Race deadline. The rest of the weekend looks settled at the time of writing. Track it closer to Friday, because if those showers hold then No Negative and Autopilot both come into play.
THE WEEKLY WATCHLIST
๐ข BUY
Lance Stroll
Both Aston Martins returned double-digit Fantasy scores in Hungary, the first time that has happened simultaneously on a non-sprint weekend, and more upgrades are expected. Stroll is the cheapest way in. For anyone building towards a 4A lineup he is exactly the kind of enabler that makes the structure affordable, and the Sprint gives him a second bite.
Lando Norris
First win of the season, and pole at a circuit Mercedes had owned all year. Zandvoort rewards Saturday more than almost anywhere, which is precisely where McLaren just made their gains. High budget teams can pair him with Antonelli and a Ferrari or McLaren constructor without gutting the rest of the lineup.
๐ก HOLD
Kimi Antonelli
Still the championship leader, still the most consistent scorer in the game, and still a live 2x Boost option rather than a passenger. Mercedes lost the pole streak but not the race pace, and at a track where anyone starting out of position stays there, the multiplier belongs on a driver who reliably qualifies at the front. Two scoring sessions only widen his ceiling. Nothing about Hungary changes the case for holding.
Isack Hadjar
This is a hold for anyone whose budget is not yet ready to make the jump to 4A, or who wants one or two more $0.6m rises out of the French driver before it is. He needs just -1 for a maximum rise this weekend, so the next one is close to banked. Be aware that his 38 from Belgium comes off the rolling average soon, and once it does the threshold climbs and the case for holding gets a lot harder. Worth a proper reassessment after Zandvoort.
๐ด SELL
Arvid Lindblad
A sixth consecutive points finish that was only worth four points, and he needs 13 for a minimum rise. Gabriel Bortoleto sits at a similar price and has outscored him across the last two weekends. If 4A is on your horizon, Lindblad is the sacrifice.
Liam Lawson
P8 in Hungary was fine. The price is not. Lawson is now the single largest block of capital most teams have parked in the midfield, and freeing it up is what makes a 4A lineup possible at all. Audi and Aston Martin will replace most of his output for a fraction of it.
THE CHIPS
Sprint weekends are where 3x Boost earns its keep, and Zandvoort adds a second reason: at a circuit this dependent on grid position, two reliable front-row qualifiers is about as close to a safe multiplier as the game gets. Limitless works on the same logic, letting you stack strong qualifiers across an extra session, though remember your pre-Limitless team still absorbs this weekend's price changes. If the forecast turns wet, drop both. No Negative becomes the better play once retirements enter the picture.
